ABOUT THE PT

Kelsi Hughes, PT, DPT

(she/her)

Background:

I grew up in western KY where I was a pretty active child. I started playing soccer as soon as I was able to and would run track and with the cross country team to stay in shape for soccer. I moved to Lexington to attend Transylvania University after high school. I never stopped playing soccer. But I did have many injuries and so many bouts with the physical therapist and athletic trainer and this sparked my interest in becoming a physical therapist specializing in soccer-related injuries.

On my internships during grad school, I started hiking in the Blueridge Mountains and fell in love with hiking. I moved to Seattle after grad school and not only did I continue hiking, but I also had a friend teach me to boulder. I fell in love with the climbing community and found out they got injured as much as I did playing soccer. This sparked my interest in becoming a physical therapist specializing in hikers, climbers, and other outdoor enthusiasts.

Starting Dash PT:

After working for several in-network companies, getting burned out on productivity standards, and being frustrated by how little time I personally got to spend helping my patients (some of which didn't want to be there), I decided to take my passions and start working with patients that I enjoyed working with. Dash Physical Therapy started as a way to provide people who want to stay active after high school and into mid-adulthood the care they deserve. I take pride in keeping people active as they are navigating an injury and progressing people back to the activity they love as soon as possible. Now, Dash PT has grown into injury prevention as well, keeping high school soccer players and other athletes strong to try and prevent ACL injury, ankle sprains, and major surgeries.

In general, I love working with people who have had an injury to or are having pain in the foot and ankle, knee, and hip. And I love working with the populations previously mentioned (soccer, climbers, outdoor athletes), because when you understand a sport or activity, it's easier to connect, and my patients feel the same way.

Outside of Dash PT:

Outside of work and running a business, I love spending time with my husband and dog. I like to go kayaking, hiking, and roller skating but also love just watching a movie or UK game at home. I also am a hobby freak. I'll try anything for a few days and then forget about it for a while (hehe). I am also a coach for a local JV girls soccer team and that is one of my favorite things to do. I love getting to watch the next generation of players learn and grow!

"After running for years, I was struggling to continue after ongoing knee pain. I had been to physical therapy in a clinic, but with the short appointments and generic exercises, I wasn’t able to make long term progress that got me back to the amount of running I wanted. Kelsi offered longer appointments and she took the time to understand my issue really thoroughly. She gave a hybrid approach of gentle manipulation and cupping to reduce pain while giving me really tailored exercises to do on my own that were personalized to my anatomy and concerns. She was easy to reach during the week when I was doing my exercises and gave me feedback as needed. With Kelsi’s support, I was able to go back to distance running and ran a half marathon pain free! I was able to get long term results and build strength to keep myself healthy moving forward."

Do you relate to these stories?

How would you like to be contacted by the physical therapist?

"This was the best PT experience I have had. They diagnosed my problem immediately and gave me the path to recovery. When I have had an injury in the past, doctors have recommended resting. What I love about Dash is their philosophy. They believe the path to recovery is active instead of static. I will always use them in the future."

"Kelsi is AMAZING!!!!! Not only did she help my daughter in through her soccer injury, but she did so in such a way that I felt my daughter developed more confidence and positive self esteem through the process. Kelsi is not only a gifted clinician but works soo well with adults and kids of all ages. We will continue to use her services for preventative and acute injuries- she has kept my daughter on the field!!!"
